Subject Leaders

In addition to their classroom responsibilities, teachers also take the lead on an area of the National Curriculum.

The role of Subject Leaders is to know what the curriculum is for, how it is planned and what content is covered.

We recognise that teachers need time and support to undertake this role, especially in a primary school when they may be leading a subject beyond their own specialism.  To support our Subject Leaders we:

• Provide dedicated leadership time
• Hold drop-ins and workshops with Senior Leaders
• Expect them to research their curriculum area and keep up to date with developments
• Encourage them to join local and national subject networks
• Provide opportunities for them to work with other local colleagues
• Provide training through INSET and staff meetings
• Encourage them to “think big” and be ambitious for their subject
