Wrens and Puffins news

Wrens and Puffins have been busy exploring all things 'Light and Dark'. We have talked about Autumn festivals and celebrations involving light such as Diwali and Bonfire night, made firework pictures and moved to 'firework sounds'. We have shared the stories 'Peace at last' and 'Owl babies' and talked about animals that are awake at night. We have explored light with torches and making shadow shapes. We have loved sharing our 'Light and Dark rhymes' including Twinkle twinkle little star, Teddy bear, teddy bear turn a round and a Wide eyed Owl!

Wrens and Puffins are enjoying our fine motor skill activity 'Pen disco'. We select two coloured pens and practise our pen control in our 'pen disco' books so far we have practised straight lines, wavy lines and zigzag lines all along to disco music!

Home Learning

Please use the flash cards we have sent home to consolidate sounds taught and the Harder to Read and Spell words

Read books/stories daily and have conversations about the books you've shared

Play games together - practise turn taking, recognising numbers on a dice, counting the spaces and following the rules of the game

Bake or cook something - follow instructions, measure, count, explore the reactions, taste and discuss likes and dislikes

Educational apps that make learning fun

 -Teach your monster to read

 - Phonics Play

 - Cbeebies explore

 - Reading eggs

 - Voice recorder (read a sentence to the app and listen to it back in a silly voice!)

- Numberblocks

CEOP website supporting online safety through an interactive game

The new interactive website encourages 4-7s to engage safely online by helping them to recognise worrying, upsetting or scary situations and reinforcing the key message that they should ‘Tell A Grown Up’ in these instances.

The website is divided into sections for 4-5 and 6-7 year olds and features relevant and age-appropriate games for the chosen age bracket. Each game focuses on one of four topics:

  • watching videos
  • chatting online
  • sharing pictures
  • gaming online
The Jessie & Friends episodes are also available to watch on the new website to enhance understanding.

In the event of school closure:

On rare occasions, it may be necessary to close the school. This may be due to adverse weather conditions or perhaps when essential school services cannot be provided –e.g. heating, plumbing or water.

Please refer to the School’s Bad Weather Policy on our website for information regarding how we communicate a school closure.

Class teachers will then initiate home school learning activities, and these will be available to children by 10am of the same morning.
