Assessment
Assessment is integral to exceptional teaching and learning at Burpham Primary School. We use a range of strategies to understand where each child is in their learning journey and how to continue moving them forward.
Formative assessment is used constantly in the classroom to assess children against the learning objective of each lesson. Teachers use effective questioning, observation of learning and other interactions to understand children’s development and plan for next steps. This links closely with our feedback policy.
At key points in the year, class teachers meet with the SENCo and wider Leadership Team in our Pupil Progress meetings where we track each child’s attainment and progress over time. These meetings showcase the class teachers’ in-depth knowledge of their pupils’ learning and allow the Leadership Team to make strategic decisions and plan school priorities for development.
During their time at primary school, pupils will undertake statutory assessments in phonics, multiplication tables, English and Maths. Parents will be given more information about these assessments at Parent Information Evenings with the class teachers.
If you have any questions regarding assessment you can speak with your child's class teacher in the first instance or contact our Assessment Leader and Deputy Headteacher Miss Cressida Booth.
