History/ Design and Technology

Our key question in History this term has been  "Why does Guildford have a castle?" We consolidated this learning using junk modelling materials to make castles in our Spring DT project. We had to think carefully about what would make a good castle and then think about how to use our DT skills to make it strong and safe. We hope you enjoy looking at all our creative ideas!

English

In English, we have been learning about verbs. Recently we have learnt how to play the game Snakes and Ladders and how to use 'bossy' verbs to help us follow instructions. Please enjoy some photos of us playing our game before writing instructions using numbers and verbs.

Maths

In Maths, the children have been learning how to find the missing number using part, part, whole models and counters. The children worked confidently with a partner to be able to find the missing part to enable them to complete a range of addition number sentences. This helped the children consolidate their number bonds, understand a number sentence and will support their learning when we move on to subtraction.

Project Week

During project week the children worked hard with a partner or as a group to plan, design and create their own projects. The children had free choice to be creative, use as many resources as they liked and lead their own learning. We taught the children the values to work well in a partnership and allowed them creative freedom. This was one of the children's most favourite weeks, it was great to see so many different pieces of work and children engaged. We hope you like some of the outcomes created by the Robins and Finches.

In the event of a school closure...

On rare occasions, it may be necessary to close the school. This may be due to adverse weather conditions or perhaps when essential school services cannot be provided –e.g. heating, plumbing or water.

Please refer to the School’s Bad Weather Policy on our website for information regarding how we communicate a school closure.

Class teachers will then initiate home school learning activities, and these will be available to children by 10am of the same morning.

Thank You!
